House painting in Sydney — common questions

How much does it cost to paint a house in Sydney?

As a guide for 2026: a single room $600–$1,500, a full 3-bedroom interior $6,000–$12,000, and a full exterior $8,000–$25,000+. Preparation, access and the condition of the existing surfaces move every one of those numbers, which is why the only accurate figure is a walked, itemised quote. Ours are free, in writing, and list exactly what is included.

How much does it cost to paint a 3 bedroom house interior?

Typically $6,000–$12,000 for walls, ceilings, trims and doors throughout, with two full coats over proper preparation. A home in good condition with standard ceiling heights sits at the lower end; cracked ceilings, a lot of gloss trim, high ceilings or heritage detail push it toward the top. A 4-bedroom interior usually lands between $9,000 and $18,000.

How long does it take to paint a house?

As a guide only: a full 3-bedroom interior usually takes 4–7 working days, and a full exterior 1–3 weeks depending on how much preparation the surfaces need, whether scaffold is involved and what the weather does. We give you a start date and an estimated number of working days with the quote, and we tell you early if the prep turns up more than expected rather than rushing the finish.

Do I need to move out or move my furniture while you paint?

No. Interiors are done room by room in a sequence we agree with you before we start, so the house stays liveable throughout. We move the furniture to the centre of each room and cover it, sheet the floors, and put everything back and clean up before moving on. The only things worth moving yourself are small valuables and anything fragile.

What paint do you use?

We are a Dulux Accredited painter, so it is mostly Dulux. Exteriors get Dulux Weathershield, a premium 100% acrylic system, over the correct primer for the substrate. Interiors get a washable low-sheen on walls, with the right sheen for wet areas, ceilings and trim. Every quote names the exact product line and the number of coats, so you can check what is going on your walls.

How often should a house be repainted in Sydney?

Interiors usually go 10–15 years before they need a full repaint, longer in rooms that get little use. Exteriors depend on where the house sits: about 5–7 years on walls taking direct salt off the beach, 7–10 years a few streets back, and 10–12+ years once you are a kilometre or more inland. Timber, trim and the north- and west-facing walls wear out first, so repainting those on their own can stretch the interval on the rest.

Are you licensed and insured, and what does the guarantee cover?

Yes. Proview Painting holds NSW painter licence 254277C, carries public liability and workers compensation insurance, and is a Dulux Accredited painter. The 5-year workmanship guarantee is in writing on every quote. It covers the workmanship: if paint peels, flakes or blisters because of how it was prepared or applied, we come back and fix it at no cost. It does not cover fair wear and tear.
